I demonstrated how to begin an easy, simply constructed she girl art wall hanging made on a recycled hard backed book cover.
The idea here is to have our girl say what's on her mind and build a picture around that. The possibilities are endless and offer a great springboard for creativity when we feel the urge to create but the well seems dried up with ideas.
Although you can't see the detail in this photo the statement is: She follows her own music and it contains musical images throughout the piece.
A piece begins with building up background layers and texture, then we make the pieces for our girl, add her to the work, shading and blending her in. Once this is done we continue to build up more layers and texture, adding embellishments as well. The final step is to adhere her statement she wants to share and seal the entire piece.
This is a great project for those interested in getting their feet wet with mixed media. If you want some guidance, and access to materials, come to the class I'm offering next week, Thursday October 17 starting at 7PM at Stardust Ceramics. It will be a lot of fun.
